BTSC headquarters are in Burhakaba and also has a liaison office in Baidoa.

Position Title: Auxiliary Nurse
Duties and responsibilities
- Assist nurses during consultations.
- Conduct duties like dressing of wounds and helping the midwives during delivery.
- Implement and evaluate individual treatment plans for patients with a known long-term condition.
- Prioritize health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care.
- Deliver opportunistic health promotion using opportunities such as new patient-medicals.
- Provide information and advice on prescribed or over-the-counter medication on medication regimens, side effects and interactions
- Assess and care for patients with present with uncomplicated wounds.
- Implement and participate in vaccination and immunization programs for both adults and children.
- Carry out additional duties as may be required
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma in provision of basic nursing services from a recognized institution.
- Relevant regular trainings from a credible health organization.
- Minimum of two years of relevant experience in a health program set up.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
- A mature person of high professional discipline and moral integrity.
- Knowledge of local Somali language
- Previous experience within a humanitarian aid organization, in particular working in primary health care programs and conducting nursing.
- Strong counseling skills.
- Good organizational skills.
- Competent to work under stress as the situation may dictate.

JOB PURPOSE
Dispensary Nurse will be responsible to assist with drug dispensing by measuring, compounding, packaging and distributing medications. Maintain stock levels and perform clerical functions. Dispensary Nurse works under the general supervision of the head nurse.
SPECIFIC ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIE
The Pharmacy will undertake a number of duties and responsibilities, including:
- Compounding and dispensing medications, as prescribed by physicians.
- Monitoring beneficiaries drug therapies, advising interventions and informing beneficiaries of any potential side effects.
- Instructing beneficiaries on how and when to take prescribed medications.
- Conducting health and wellness screenings.
- Providing immunizations, and other medical services, such as taking blood pressure, temperature measurements, and checking blood sugar levels.
- Keeping accurate beneficiaries records.
- Ensuring a safe and clean working environment.
- Completing operational requirements of the pharmacy, including verifying order entries, maintaining records of controlled substances, charges, and removing expired and/or damaged drugs from the pharmacy’s inventory.
- Adhering to applicable legal rules, regulations, and procedures governing
- pharmaceutical practice
- Any other duties as directed by the supervisor or the Program/Medical doctor
Qualifications
- Diploma of pharmacy qualifications or equivalent professional practice in nursing.
- At least two years of relevant experience.
- At least 4 years experience in a recognised medical institution
- Ability to read and write in English as well as the Somali language
- Must be a local and a resident from the Bay region particularly in Burhakaba.
- Strong moral standards; honesty, transparency, generosity, altruism and respect
- Experience in working in harsh environment is an added advantage
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations in a team and within the community.

Overall Job Purpose
Conduct assessment of child health needs for children under 5 and provide quality and comprehensive nursing, treatment and follow-up of patients in designated out-patient clinics. Ensure delivery of high-quality nursing interventions covering provision of antenatal services, postnatal care, immunization and reproductive health, nutrition, HIV/Ads, health and hygiene promotion and epidemic response in line with BTSC health policy guidelines and primary healthcare nursing standards
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Programme Implementation
- Diagnose common health conditions to identify child health needs for children under 5
- Deliver an immunization program to ensure all children under 5 are appropriately immunized
- Assess and monitor patterns of weight gain and growth in children under 5
- Provide health education to mothers on breastfeeding and hygiene promotion
- Recommend referral of severe complicated cases for specialized treatment
- Conduct home visits and follow-up discharged patients and provide continuity of care
- Evaluate healthcare outcomes on under 5 children and prepare individualized reports
- Raise requisitions for replenishment of drugs and supplies as needed
- Compile accurate data on all OPD cases of under 5 children and prepare monthly reports
Operations Management
- Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of the OPD health programme line with strategic priorities
- Identify capacity-building needs of the auxiliary and volunteer nursing team and ensure they are properly trained and well supported to implement programme activities
- Participate in emergency preparedness, rapid assessments and emergency responses

JOB PURPOSE
Screeners will be responsible for screening <5 children and pregnant and lactating women for malnutrition, admitting them or discharging when it’s appropriate, following the IMAM guidelines..
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- S/he will be required to conduct sensitization and MUAC (middle upper arm circumference) screening of Pregnant and lactating women (PLW) and children under 5 years.
- The nutrition screener will screen, tally, register and coordinate the screening of children to verify their age at the distribution point; the nutrition screener/register Additionally is required to train the Nutrition volunteers.
- S/he will be tasked to report to the nutrition officer on distribution requirement update.
- The nutrition screener will collaborate with other INGOs/LNGOs on nutrition activities and to refer children identified with SAM and provide technical support to the nutrition assistant.
- S/he then will be required to mainstream the nutritional activities in line with BTSC standards with regards to Infant and Young Child feeding (IYCF) programs.
- The nutrition screener will also provide guidance to (IYCF Groups) on policy and methodologies to enhance service delivery at the Host community and camp level.
- The nutrition screener is expected to have competencies of a skillful leader in guiding and supporting staff, addressing various operational challenges, along with increasing security concerns.
Required Skills and Experience
- Diploma in Nurse, Public health, or other related field is required.
- Experience in the area of nutrition promotion and addressing malnutrition.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the same position.
- Previous experience in NGOs/Donor funded programs is preferred.
- Working experience of one year in IMAM or Maternal and Child Health program
- Excellent written and spoken skills in English
- Experience in nutrition program and community work.
- Good relations with other people.
- Good capacity to work in a team and flexibility.
- Excellent communication (written and oral), editing, and advocacy skills
- Computer literate in (Microsoft word, excel, and power point presentation.)

The Role
The IYCF Counsellor will provide IYCF counselling to the mothers and other caregivers for effective beneficiary information and skills development in the areas of good nutrition practices. He/she is expected to provide a high standard of promoting optimum health and preventive health care, thereby contributing to a safe, efficient, and effective service to patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Accomplish IYCF counselling to the mothers and other caregivers at project sites.
- Participate in providing IYCF technical support to BTSC staff (educators, officers and area coordinators)
- Ensure that all staff understand and implement the IYCF program guidelines
- Ensure appropriate and consistent education messaging to mothers and caregivers
- Advise the best feeding options and follow ups as appropriate
- Participate in the development of mother support groups and mother-baby areas.
- Participate in developing regular work plans for the mother support groups and mother-baby areas.
- Prepare field visit plans
- Act as an effective member in promoting, supporting, and protecting IYCF practices (give IYCF awareness sessions and IYCF individual counselling sessions as necessary).
- Give support to IYCF team members as necessary
- Assist in the development and review of educational material
- Prepare training materials and conduct IYCF trainings when necessary
- Make sure all IYCF databases are regularly filled and submitted
- Conduct evaluation and appraisal of staff as required
- Report weekly to the Nutrition Officer
Qualifications & Experience Required Education
- At least Diploma in Nursing, Nutrition or Public Health.
- Relevant training on food and diets, supplementary feeding programs is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the same position.
- Good organization and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work in a team.
- Good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Fluency in Somali required.

JOB PURPOSE
The EPI Nurse is expected to promote optimum health care services by contributing to patients safe, efficient and effective preventive care service.
Duties and responsibilities
- Conduct static vaccination sessions in the primary health care facility as scheduled and holding outreach activities in the community
- Administer vaccines correctly in accordance with guidelines, while maintaining strict aseptic techniques
- Report and record measles cases and conduct immunization, mopping up and/or any other supplemental immunization activities/campaigns
- Liaise closely with health workers within the facility, health promoters, CHWs and other staff in order to avoid missed opportunities (including screening of cards) for immunization of children to be followed up through list and defaulter tracing. Also coordinates for proper birth recording/reporting and growth monitoring activities in the facilities with the teams
- Maintains accurate records/charts of monitoring coverage of the patients in the clinic and target population
- Maintains accurate EPI records including daily and permanent registers, and additional records missed cases and defaulters (prepare and update lists on a monthly basis)
- Provides counseling to the care givers on the preventative and curative health aspects of the vaccines, vaccination schedules, when to return for the other shot of vaccine etc.
- Receives vaccines from the field office/UNICEF Depot and ensures that the cold chain is correctly maintained to the point of actual immunization in accordance to standardized guidelines
- Prepares monthly statistical report, vaccine consumption/wastage rates and submits in timely manner.
- Ensures that used syringes, needles and all vaccinations vials/ampoules are stored and disposed off per protocols
- Participates in meeting with community representatives, volunteers and to discuss EPI activities such as defaulters, EPI campaigns etc
- Co-ordinate with health promoters on regular basis for defaulter tracing and participate in health education session
- Coordinate with the nutrition wing for the treatment and immunization of the identified malnourished children and their follow up

JOB PURPOSE
To accurately record personal and anthropometrical data as well and calculate nutritional indices for Children and Pregnant/lactating women presenting at OTP/Nutrition sites. OTP Registrar will be working under the direct supervision of nutrition nurse.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
OTP/TSFP Planning
- Conduct quality anthropometric measures at the OTP/SFP sites on the referral beneficiaries following the initial screening exercise while ensuring efficient and effective workflow.
- Work with the outreach teams to develop and maintain a referral system at community level.
- Engage CHW in referring malnourished children and pregnant and lactating women special attention to the basic health units.
- Assisting community in identification and referral of acute malnutrition,
- Ensures that nutritional protocol is strictly followed in terms of admission and discharge criteria.
- Properly fill in the registration books and monitoring cards of each beneficiary with personal and anthropometric data,
- Assisting the OTP Nurse to compile weekly and monthly statistic reports,
- Assisting in monitoring the nutrition situation in areas of work, including participating in nutrition assessments and surveillance as required,
- Performing any other responsibilities deemed appropriate by the OTP Nurse.
Handling of anthropometric tools and reporting
- Proper use and recording of OTP/TSFP cards and resisters,

Reporting
The OTP/TSFP registrar is responsible for ensuring that the data of the beneficiaries are documented in the reporting tools:
- Check the condition of anthropometric materials received or to be sent, and verify the accuracy of any previously inventory of the tools,
- Responsible for proper handling of weighing and measuring equipment. Ensure scales are properly calibrated at all times and report defects, damage or loss of equipment to the OTP/TSFP Supervisor.

JOB PURPOSE
Conduct health screenings and appraisal of infants and children to detect conditions of severe acute malnutrition. Provide early intervention and treatment by ensuring nutrition support through provision of therapeutic food, routine drugs, including health and nutrition education by following the safest and most effective therapeutic feeding protocol in line with BTSC health policy guidelines and nursing standards
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Programme Implementation
- Conduct health screenings and appraisal of children to detect conditions of severe acute malnutrition
- Perform daily nursing tasks required in the daily care for children with severe acute malnutrition, which includes administration of drugs, therapeutic feed preparation and monitoring of vital signs
- Recommend referral of severe complicated SAM cases for specialized treatment
- Provide health and nutrition education to mothers on hand hygiene, cleanliness, waste disposal and other effective practices relevant for safety and infection prevention

JOB PURPOSE
A Midwife provides prenatal and early postnatal advice, care and support for women and also assists them during labour. Their duties include monitoring and examining women during and after pregnancy, providing health education and parental advice and developing individual care programmes.

JOB PURPOSE
The SC Supervisor will be responsible for the coordination of medical, nursing and program in the Stabilization Centre. The SC Nurse in Charge is responsible for the initial assessment of the patients when they are in crisis to assure stabilization; will also interpret medical information, make decisions about possible admissions and assist or administer medications recognizing that the effective management of hospital depends on effective communication and participation of all members of the team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Obtains medical histories and provides medical screening.
- Follow the SC protocols for the medical care of the SAM cases with complications, and ensure that all protocols are understood and appropriate referrals take place to and from the OTP.
- Complete interviews and physical assessments of consumers.
- Responsible for updating the initial treatment plan with any medical issues, in conjunction with other staff.
- Coordinate and implement discharge plans which may include outside community agencies.
- Provides health education to groups and/or individuals.
- Maintains up to date, well documented medical records, which comply with state and program requirements.
- Participates in case reviews as a member of the multidisciplinary staff.

JOB PURPOSE
BTSC is seeking a qualified and highly motivated person who can lead a health project team in Somalia under the direction of a Medical doctor, and the medical Laboratory will closely work with the health team at BTSC supported Health facility in Buur-Hakaba
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Organizes work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling; sorting specimens; checking to label; logging specimens; arranging reports for delivery; keeping work surfaces clean and orderly.
- Maintains quality results by running standards and controls, verifying equipment function through routine equipment maintenance and advanced troubleshooting; calibrating equipment utilizing approved testing procedures; monitoring quality control measures and protocols.
- Identifies and communicates abnormal patient conditions by alerting supervisory personnel, the pathologist, the patient-physician, or nurse; reporting mandated information to the public health department or other designated officials.
- Chemistry – provides test results for patient diagnosis and treatment by operating chemistry equipment; performing hand chemistries.
